Of the 33 with a Google rating, Trapski Family Law’s 4.2 stars ranked 28th; 27 firms rated higher. Among the 20 firms with at least 20 reviews it ranked 17th. On the evidence, the positive reviews look genuine. Most name the solicitor who did the work and describe a specific matter type, and they come from established accounts with a median of about 15 prior reviews, ten of them Google Local Guides. Purchased reviews typically look the opposite: generic, no named staff, and new accounts.
Of four critical reviews among the first 31, two give no detail, one from 2017 concerns a cancelled appointment rather than legal work, and one makes an adverse allegation that the firm has publicly answered by saying the reviewer was the opposing party rather than a client. The firm does not publish an allocation policy. The free initial consultation is with the principal, Alison Trapski; day-to-day work may be handled by one of the four employed solicitors under her supervision. Ask at the first appointment who will run your matter and who will supervise it.

Under Victoria’s legal profession rules the principal is responsible for supervising the practice’s legal services.

Very little. QS and Times Higher Education rankings measure whole institutions, mainly on research output and reputation surveys; they do not assess a law school’s teaching or an individual graduate. Every Victorian lawyer completes an accredited law degree, practical legal training and the Supreme Court of Victoria’s admission process regardless of where they studied.
In the QS World University Rankings 2027 the University of Melbourne is equal 22nd in the world (2nd in Australia) and Monash University 31st (5th in Australia). As at 12 September 2026 none of Trapski Family Law’s five lawyers is a graduate of either.
Victoria Legal Aid decides, applying its means test and guidelines for the type of matter. Trapski Family Law has advised Lawyer Reviews Australia that it accepts legally aided family law matters, a statement supplied by the firm and not independently verified, so if cost is the barrier, ask the firm whether your matter may be eligible.
JustFund is a litigation funder that pays a client’s family law costs and disbursements and is repaid from the property settlement. Trapski Family Law’s website says the firm is JustFund accredited, meaning it can offer that funding route to eligible clients. Funding comes with its own fees and conditions, which the funder must disclose.
Under the Legal Profession Uniform Law, before or as soon as practicable after starting work a law firm must disclose the basis of its charges, an estimate of total costs, and your rights, including the right to negotiate, to receive itemised bills on request and to have a costs dispute assessed.
