Frequently asked

What people in your position usually ask first.

Conveyancer or solicitor — what's the difference?

A licensed conveyancer handles standard property transfers. A property solicitor is qualified to handle the same work plus anything legally complex (caveats, disputes, off-the-plan complications, complex contracts). For straightforward purchases and sales, either is fine. We'll match you with both options so you can compare. Note that in some states (e.g. Queensland), conveyancing is handled by solicitors only.

What does conveyancing usually cost?

Across Australia, a typical residential conveyance is roughly A$800–A$2,200 in professional fees, plus disbursements (searches, certificates, stamp duty processing — often A$200–A$600). Off-the-plan and complex matters cost more. The matched lawyer will give you a written quote.

How quickly can someone start work?

Usually the same day or next business day. If your settlement is in less than 14 days, tell us — we'll prioritise.

What if I'm buying or selling interstate?

Conveyancing law differs by state, so we match in the state where the property is located. The lawyer you engage doesn't need to be in your suburb — just licensed in that state.

Are you a law firm?

No. Lawyer Reviews is an independent publication. We are not a law firm and don't give legal advice.

What does it cost me?

Nothing. We don't charge consumers — we charge lawyers a fixed, published enquiry fee.

Ready when you are.

One short form. Up to three written fixed-fee quotes within a business day.
