About Belle Lane

Belle Lane is the first barrister at the Victorian Bar to be accredited as an AMDRAS Leading Mediator. She has worked in family law since her admission in April 1994, signed the Victorian Bar roll in November 1998, and holds a current Victorian practising certificate as a Barrister. The register lists her under her full given name, Annabelle Lane, with three areas of practice: family law, alternative dispute resolution and advocacy.

Doyle’s Guide has ranked her Preeminent among Victorian family law mediators every year since 2022, and listed her in that list in every edition since 2017. She is one of only three Preeminent mediators in 2026, in a list of twenty-nine across three tiers. She also appears in two other Victorian barrister lists in 2026: Leading for parenting and children’s matters, where she was Preeminent from 2022 to 2025, and Recommended among family law junior counsel. Doyle’s rankings are produced by peer survey, and this profile is not a paid placement.

Background. Her clerk’s profile says she has worked as a barrister at both the Victorian and Western Australian Bars, and as a solicitor in Victoria, Western Australia and the Northern Territory. She has practised in all states and territories and is available for interstate and intrastate work. She is a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner, teaches mediation with the Australian Institute of Family Law Arbitrators and Mediators and the University of Western Australia, was a director of AIFLAM from 2012 to 2019, and regularly mentors other dispute resolution practitioners.

Doyle’s Guide rankings

Belle Lane’s current rankings, from the 2026 edition of Doyle’s Guide. Every earlier edition is set out in the full ranking history below.

Correction, 15 September 2026. Until today this page showed the Preeminent 2026 ranking under the heading “Family Law · Junior Counsel”. That was wrong: the Preeminent listing is in Doyle’s Victorian family law mediators list, and her 2026 junior counsel ranking is Recommended. Both rows below now carry their own source link.

About Doyle’s Guide rankings. Doyle’s Guide surveys peers, clients and industry stakeholders to produce annual tier rankings of individual lawyers and law firms. Tiers are Preeminent / Leading / Recommended. We aggregate Doyle’s published rankings with attribution — we do not produce these tiers ourselves. Read Doyle’s methodology →

Ten years of Doyle’s rankings

Doyle’s Guide publishes a separate annual list for each practice area and state, so one lawyer can hold different tiers in different lists in the same year. Below is every published Doyle’s listing we could verify for Belle Lane, from 2017 to 2026, with the tier reached in each edition. Each list was opened individually on doylesguide.com on 15 September 2026 — no run of years has been inferred from a single page.

What the record shows. The mediators list moved up once and held: Leading from 2017 to 2021, Preeminent every year since 2022. The parenting barristers list has gone the other way — Recommended in 2018, Leading 2019 to 2021, Preeminent 2022 to 2025, and Leading again in 2026 — and the junior counsel list has moved between Leading and Recommended throughout. Her earlier listings record her at Owen Dixon Chambers East before Foley’s List.

Years are the edition years Doyle’s publishes. Where a year is missing from a run, the practitioner was not in that edition of that list, which we confirmed by searching the page rather than assuming it. See also our hub of Doyle’s-ranked Melbourne family lawyers.

What Belle Lane handles

Her clerk’s profile lists her areas of expertise as:

How a barrister is engaged. Barristers in Victoria are ordinarily briefed by a solicitor rather than retained directly by a client, and are booked through a clerk. Her profile says her practice has a significant focus on dispute resolution, and that she conducts mediations both in person and online. The Victorian Bar and her clerk both note that profile information is supplied by the barrister and is not independently verified by them.

Register details

Belle Lane is listed on the Victorian register of lawyers maintained by the Victorian Legal Services Board + Commissioner. The entry below is reproduced as it appeared on 15 September 2026.

A note on the name and the entry. The register records her as Annabelle Lane; Doyle’s Guide, her clerk and her own profile use Belle Lane. Barristers in Victoria are sole practitioners, which is why the “practising at” field shows her own name rather than a firm, and why accredited specialisation is recorded as not applicable — the Law Institute of Victoria scheme is for solicitors.

About the register. The register records every person entitled to practise law in Victoria. Barrister means a current practising certificate to practise as counsel; barristers are sole practitioners and do not hold trust money. Areas of practice are nominated by the practitioner. The practice around her

She reads on Foley’s List and practises from Aickin Chambers, 200 Queen Street, Melbourne. Foley’s List is a barristers’ clerking list, not a law firm: it handles bookings and administration for independent barristers who remain sole practitioners.

Doyle’s does not rank clerking lists in its family law firm rankings, so there is no firm-level tier to report, and there is no firm Google Business Profile that would be meaningful for an individual barrister.

Where she practises and how to engage her

The register records her address as Melbourne VIC 3000 and her chambers are at 200 Queen Street. Her published clerk’s number is 03 9225 7777 and her listed email is bellelane@vicbar.com.au.

Barristers are normally briefed by a solicitor. If you do not yet have one, our matching service can put your matter in front of a family lawyer who can then brief counsel if your matter needs it.
